The city of Multan is in the southern Punjab province of Pakistan. The name Multan is derived from the Sanskrit word “Mulasthana” which means “the Sun Temple”. Legend has it that the city was visited by Alexander’s army. One of the oldest cities of the subcontinent, Multan was the capital of the Trigarta Kingdom. At the time of the Mahabharata War, the city was ruled by the Katoch Dynasty. It was conquered by Muhammad Bin Qasim. Whereas, Bahawalpur was an independent state before Pakistan came into existence in 1947. In 1780, the city was built on an old site.
